Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How many volunteer hours do I need to complete?
Students participating in Journey For Good must complete 25 volunteer hours.

Can I be part of NJHS and JFG at the same time?
Yes! Journey For Good is open to all Dwyer students, including those in National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).
If you meet the 18-hour NJHS requirement, simply complete 7 more hours (following JFG guidelines) to reach the JFG 25-hour goal.

Are the NJHS volunteer requirements the same as JFG requirements?
No.

  • NJHS requires 18 hours with specific guidelines and deadlines.
  • JFG requires 25 hours with different guidelines and deadlines.
  • After completing your 18 NJHS hours, the additional 7 hours can follow JFG guidelines.

What types of volunteering are accepted for JFG?
JFG prefers service connected to non-profit or community-based organizations such as:

  • Schools
  • Churches
  • PTAs
  • Boosters
  • Guilds

Volunteering with your sports organization or dance studio may also count, as long as you are not being paid.

What types of volunteering are not accepted for JFG?
The following do not count toward JFG volunteer hours:

  • Babysitting
  • Helping neighbors
  • Doing chores or tasks for your own family

Reason: These are not considered community service.

What is the deadline to submit my volunteer hours?
All JFG volunteer hours must be submitted by May 11, 2026

Important: This deadline is different from NJHS deadlines.

What kind of recognition do students receive for completing the 25-hour goal?
Recognition varies by grade level:

  • 6th & 7th Grade: Certificate and medal awarded at an end-of-year awards assembly
  • 8th Grade: Certificate, medal, and a silver cord worn at 8th Grade Promotion
  • 8th Grade will also be recognized at the 8th Grade Awards Night

How can students track and submit their volunteer hours?
Students submit and track hours through x2VOL, found in the Clever portal.
Students must sign into Clever to access the x2VOL app.

When can students begin earning volunteer hours for the next school year?
Students may begin earning JFG volunteer hours in June for the following school year.
