The 8th grade promotion ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 18, at 2 pm on the Dwyer front lawn.
Requirements
In order to receive a Certificate of Promotion or be allowed to participate in any promotional activities students must meet the following conditions:
Any student who has attended less than one semester in Huntington Beach City School District will be considered for promotion by the site administration.
Each eighth grade student who is not eligible to receive a certificate of promotion or participate in any promotional activities shall conference with the student’s parent and an administrator. A written notification shall be provided to parents explaining the reasons for the ineligibility.
Retention
Students in grades six thru eight will be retained if they have not met the District standards regarding promotion or they have not satisfied the conditions of a “conditional promotion.” Please visit HBCSD website to view the student retention brochure, under Educational Services.
There are two promotion package options:
In order to participate in the promotion ceremony, students must wear a black promotion gown. Gowns may not be altered in any way (no embellishments, alterations, etc.).
Contact Trish Rogan at (714) 536-7507 if you know your student won’t be attending the ceremony due to a family decision, need access to a computer to complete the order form, or to request assistance due to financial hardship. Orders are due by Monday, April 21, 2025.
Optional Item for Purchase: Ribbon Lei
Black and orange ribbon leis from Hawaii are available by pre-order only on the Promotion Order Form for $10.00. The purchase of a lei is optional.
Optional Item for Purchase: Program Message
If you would like to have a special message for your student printed in the program, it is available for purchase on the Promotion Order Form for $5.00.
Optional Sponsorship/Donation for another student
If you would like to sponsor another student’s promotion package, you may make an optional donation on the Promotion Order Form.
A photo of your student with Dr. Glembocki will be taken on the day of promotion. A downloadable photo is included with the purchase of your student’s promotion package. Printed photos may be purchased from the photographer using the link for the downloadable photo.
Photo spots will be available on the lawn to take family group photos with your personal camera after the ceremony.
Program Cover Art Contest
Calling all artists! Create an artwork masterpiece related to the promotion theme of “Catching Waves and Chasing Dreams”. The winning entries will be included in the promotion program. Submissions should be prepared on 8.5”x11” paper in portrait orientation and turned in at the office by Friday, May 23.
Farewell Speaker
As a Dwyer tradition, we are seeking an outstanding 8th-grade student author/speaker to bid a fond farewell to Dwyer with an inspirational speech at our promotion ceremony. If your student is interested in writing and delivering a speech, tied to our theme of “ Catching Waves and Chasing Dreams”, and would like to be our Farewell Speaker, they should submit their written speech via email to dwyerpromotion@gmail.com for consideration by Friday, May 23. Finalists will be contacted and auditions will be held on Friday, May 30.
National Anthem Vocalist
If your student is an aspiring singer and wants to represent their 8th grade class by singing our National Anthem, they should submit an audition video to dwyerpromotion@gmail.com for consideration by Friday, May 23. Finalists will be contacted and auditions will be held on Friday, May 30. Students are welcome to perform solo or in a small group of up to three students.
The contests are open to 8th-grade students only.

Promotion Day Schedule
9:00 AM: Rehearsal (students only)
11:00 AM (approximate time): Students may be signed out after rehearsal at 15th and Palm so they can get ready for the ceremony
1:40 PM: Students must arrive to their assigned room/auditorium (enter campus from the 14th Street gate near the cafeteria)
1:40 PM: Guests may arrive on campus for seating (see below for parking and seating information)
2:00 PM: Ceremony begins
3:00 PM (approximate time): Ceremony ends
Parking will be limited because Dwyer and Smith students will be released from school at the time when guests will be arriving. Parking will be available at First Christian Church and the surrounding streets. A limited number of handicapped parking spaces will be available in the Dwyer Gymnasium parking lot.
Guests may enter from the gates on Palm and the gate near the Dwyer Gymnasium. No guests will be allowed to enter from the gates on 14th Street.
Tickets are not required and there is no limit to the number of guests each student may invite.
Guests may enter the Dwyer grounds for seating beginning at 1:40 p.m. Guests may hold up to six seats for members of their group who have not yet arrived. Guests are not allowed to stand near or behind the promotion stage or in the aisle ways.
Handicapped seating will be available on a first to arrive, first to be seated basis and is located in the shade under the solar panels. The path from the gate at the Dwyer Gymnasium parking lot to the handicapped seating is a paved surface.
