Track and Field
We are excited to announce the upcoming Track and Field season at Dwyer Middle School! Our first meet will take place shortly after Spring Break, and we want to take this opportunity to share some important details with you about how the season will work. Important infromational meeting date will be April 4th right after school in from of the locker rooms.
How Track and Field Works: There are no tryouts for the sport; all students are welcome to come out and explore the events they are interested in. Coaches will typically select the top 3 athletes for each event in every meet. However, every student usually will have the chance to compete in at least one event. For the final meets, we will form the most competitive team possible to ensure our best performance.
The meets we participate in are usually Tri-Meets (against 3 schools), but occasionally, there may be a meet with 4 schools.
Track and Field Events: Students can compete in a maximum of 3 events, plus the relay. The available events include:
- 1600 Meter
- 100 Meter
- 400 Meter
- 200 Meter
- 800 Meter
- Long Jump
- High Jump
- Shot Put
- Relay
Team Structure: The team is divided into the following divisions and you must compete in the same division for all events:
- 8th Grade Girls
- 8th Grade Boys
- 6th/7th Grade Girls
- 6th/7th Grade Boys
- 5'4" and Under Girls
- 5'4" and Under Boys
Season Overview: The Track and Field season moves quickly, and we aim to give each athlete as many opportunities to compete as possible. The competition structure is based on these divisions, but the specific number of events a student can participate in will depend on the team’s overall structure.
