Honor Roll

Students are recognized quarterly for their academics.

Distinguished Honor Roll 3.8 - 4.0

  •   Must have only S or O marks in citizenship and work habits
  •   Must have satisfactory attendance (have not received letter)

Honor Roll 3.4 - 3.79

  •   Must have only S or O marks in citizenship and work habits
  •   Must have satisfactory attendance (have not received letter)

STAR Program

Our STAR Program is meant to recognize and reward students who are academically or behaviorally achieving. We are proud to offer two recognition incentives, the SBAC Rewards and STAR Card.

STAR Card

Each quarter students can earn rewards for doing well academically from the previous quarter.

  • BLACK CARD 4.0 GPA
  • ORANGE CARD 3.4-3.99 GPA
  • OILER CARD .33 GPA Increase from previous quarter

SBAC Rewards

This reward is for students who have done well on the previous year's SBAC assessment (state testing). If students received a "4" in either Math or English, or "3's" in both, or have jumped 75 points in either subject will be placed on the rewards list. Prizes include having bi-weekly raffles and an exclusive party.

Opportunities for Honors/Awards

Outstanding Achievement

A teacher may issue awards for any subject in which the student has shown outstanding improvement or achievement.

Student of the Month (GRITbands)

Each month teachers select an individual to be recognized for demonstrating GRIT throughout the month. There is a monthly in-class recognition for all the deserving students.

Recognition of Academic Achievement at 8th-Grade Promotion

At the promotion ceremony, special recognition will be given to eighth-grade students who have achieved the following outstanding honors:

Trustee's Award

The Board of Trustees of the Huntington Beach City School District members recognize the most outstanding student based on total grade point average, standardized achievement test scores, citizenship, and work habits during the three years as a student at Dwyer Middle School.

President's Education Awards Program

Any student who, during his/her years at middle school, has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) through the first semester of eighth grade and has achieved in the 85th percentile or higher in math or reading on a standardized achievement test, will receive the President’s Education Award.

Principal's Distinguished Honor Roll

Any student with a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or above for the entire year.  Must have only S or O marks in citizenship and work habits. Must have satisfactory attendance (have not received the letter). 4th Quarter is excluded from the current year, as grades have not been submitted.

Perfect Attendance in 6th, 7th, 8th Grades

This is not an easy achievement!  The students who receive this award have shown remarkable commitment and determination. Please remember that any tardies or early outs, except for religious holidays, will exclude a student from this award.

National Junior Honor Society

The Judy Roy/Connie Alvarez chapter for the National Honor Society has been established at Dwyer Students in 7th and 8th grade who have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher (qualification comes from the prior year's GPA) and have completed a minimum of 18 hours of community service. Students may not have "U's" in citizenship during the first three quarters of the current school year and no "N's" in citizenship during the first three quarters. Students cannot be suspended, receive demerits, or be expelled during the school year.

Jr. Oiler Excellence Awards (8th Only)

Recognition for overall academics, citizenship, and leadership

Top Male and Female Athlete (8th Only)

Recognition for superior athletic ability and sportsmanship.

Top Science Student (8th Only)

Recognition for outstanding achievement in the Science Curriculum.

Top Mathematics Student (8th Only)

Recognition for outstanding achievement in the Mathematics Curriculum.

Top English/Language Arts and History Student (8th Only)

Recognition for outstanding achievement in the ELA/History Curriculum.

Top Performing/Visual Arts (8th Only)

Recognition for outstanding achievement in Visual and Performing Arts.

8th-Grade Promotion Honors

At the promotion ceremony, special recognition will be given to eighth-grade students who have achieved outstanding honors.

4.0 Students

Recognition for an extremely rare, perfect 4.0 cumulative Grade Point Average for all three years at Dwyer.

National Junior Honor Society

Recognition for 8th graders who are members of our NJHS (see tab on the website for a description of NJHS.)
