Weekly Jr. Oiler

10/2/26

Good afternoon Dwyer Community! Here is this week's newsletter for your review. Have a great weekend and Go Jr. Oilers!

Principal Update:

Dear Dwyer Families,

As we wrap up another great week at Dwyer, I want to express my gratitude to you, our family partners!  A school does not exist without students, and students do not exist at the school without families entrusting them into our care.  Thank you!  It is with this lens of gratitude and partnership that I write this update this week.

Walking through classrooms this week, I continue to be encouraged by the learning that is taking place.  I also learn quite a bit from my conversations I have with students outside of class as well. Our students ask great questions, collaborate on group projects, and dive deep into research. Our teachers continue to create engaging environments where students are encouraged to grow and excel.

In athletics this week both our Boys Volleyball and Girls Basketball teams hosted home games against Ensign and CDM, respectively.  I want to thank our parent coaches and our families of our athletes.  In our community, there are many opportunities outside of Dwyer for students to participate in athletics. Thank you for allowing your student to represent Dwyer, it makes me proud to watch them play!  Be sure to check the athletics calendar here for upcoming game schedules and come out to cheer on our teams!

Next, for those that have participated already in the Apex Fundraiser, THANK YOU!  The funds raised directly benefit students with programs and resources inside and outside the classroom that the school operating budget cannot afford. Your support truly makes a difference!  I ask that you give serious consideration to participating, if you have not done so already.

Again, thank you for our partnership, Dwyer would not be what it is without you!

Have a great weekend, enjoy the airshow, and Go Jr. Oilers!

Respectfully,

Mr. Okamoto

Jr. Oilers Live and Learn With GRIT!

Our first GRIT Store Pop-Up was a success, with over 360 student purchases (40% of the entire school population) that enjoyed a well deserved treat with their hard earned GRIT coin. Lastly, deserving students earned a September GRIT Band this week. The PBIS/GRIT Team would like to highlight John-Peadar (JP) Minahan for continuously being responsible inside and outside Mrs. Zellmer's classroom. Keep living and learning with GRIT!

Counseling Corner:

Top 10 Study Skills
As your student navigates middle school, developing strong study skills now will set them up for success both in these important years and beyond. Encourage your student to use a planner or digital calendar to track assignments and due dates, breaking larger projects into smaller, manageable steps rather than waiting until the last minute. Creating a consistent homework routine in a quiet, organized space helps build focus and reduces distractions. Remind your student to advocate for themselves and ask their teacher for help. These habits take time to develop, but with practice and support, your student will gain confidence and independence as a learner. If your student needs additional support to work on these skills, please reach out to me.

Here is my counseling referral form if you would like to refer your child to me.
